Ferringo College Report: Joe Pa Takes A Tumble

Pretty nondescript weekend in college football, eh? Thursday doesnt count towards the weekend, lads. Yeah, the Big East may have been decided, the Big Two had minor scares, and some old guy got mugged on the Penn State sideline. Oh, wait. That was Joe Pa. My bad. But I will say that had to be the most unintentionally funny moment involving a senior citizen and a collision since Bob Dole lost his battle with gravity in California in 1996.

Granted, it was nice to see a football player in Tennessee not named Pac Man getting arrested for a bar fight, and its always nice when Butch Davis is suddenly not the guy who spent four years sucking his thumb in the fetal position in Cleveland, but Week 10 still seemed like it was missing something. And it wasnt Jean-Luc Picard.

I dont know. When you find it, let me know. In the meantime, here are a few leftover thoughts from the World of College Football:

- Memo to Bob Ryan: Georgia isnt the only team in the South that plays between the hedges. Auburn comes to mind. The whole idea of his story was to gather insight into why those Simple Southerners love college football. Instead, he made himself look like and asshole. Good show.

- Florida managed to hold off a game Vanderbilt club, but they lost DT Marcus Thomas for the rest of the year. Thomas, who was recently spotted with Puff The Magic Dragon, is believed to have failed a drug test. What is this world coming to when college kids are doing drugs?

- Memo to Chase Daniels: There are cameras on you. Lots of them. In fact, ESPN is only slightly less intrusive than the National Security Agency and a proctologist. For those of you that dont know, the Missouri quarterback was caught on the Worldwide Leader picking his nose and eating it. Yup. Its as bad as it sounds.

- Great weekend for the Bluegrass State. First, Louisville downed West Virginia in an outstanding and exciting game on Thursday. Next, Kentucky stunned staggering Georgia on Saturday. Good times, and Im sure plenty of moonshine was imbibed throughout the ordeal.

However, Im still not sure that the best team won that WVU-Louisville game. Im not taking anything away from the Cards. Theyre an outstanding team. Truly top-notch. But they were playing at home, befitted from six fumbles (three recovered), and managed both a special teams and defensive touchdown. That stuff is a little fluky to me.

I still hold to the claim that Louisville will not go undefeated. I said it last week, and Ill say it again.

- Its a good thing LSU won that game because they got screwed AGAIN by the officials. That ball CLEARLY touched a Tennessee blocker in the second quarter even though replay upheld the ruling as a touchback. Instead of being up 14-0 and on the way to a blowout, they made me sweat out a stirring fourth-quarter comeback.

Oh, and DT Glenn Dorsey is a friggin man-imal.

- Weird, Notre Dame didnt cover again.

And if Brady Quinn wins the Heisman, Ill puke. I know that no one wants to win the award this year, but theres no way he gets it over Mike Hart. And yes, I know Troy Smith will win it, but my vote goes to Hart. That guy is carrying the Wolverines.

- Do you think Iowa State missed Stevie Hicks? Note to self: always bet against a team that just lost its senior leader and best offensive player.

- How about a round of applause for Buffalo. The Bulls shook off the fact that theyre in Upstate New York in November, and that 41-0 drubbing at B.C., to hammer visiting Kent State 41-14 as 16-point dogs. It must seem like forever ago that the Golden Flashes were the Cinderella team atop the MAC.

- Kudos to the Houston defense. All of the focus heading into their showdown with Tulsa was on the Hurricane secondary against Kevin Kolb. But it was the Cougars defense that really made the difference by holding Tulsa to a mere 10 points.

Along those same lines, you had to be impressed by San Jose State shutting out New Mexico State in the second half on Saturday. Say what you will about how bad the Aggies are, they were playing at home and were completely locked down by a Spartans defense on a mission.

- So much for a letdown from Oregon State. Good go. Theyve been hopped up on adrenaline, amphetamines and anger for two weeks now and absolutely destroyed the utterly befuddled Arizona State squad. The Beavers are suddenly No. 24 in the BCS rankings after their fourth straight win.

And poor Stanford. Can you imagine what it mustve been like at those practices last week? It must have felt something like Nagasaki on Aug. 10, right after those U.S. warning leaflets rained down over them and one day before The Rapture rained down over them.

- My hated rival, Bob Stoops, had another great weekend. No, the Sooners didnt cover. But they did score their second straight impressive Big 10 road win by topping Texas A&M. Stoops showed a lot of stones going for it on fourth-and-1, from his own 29-yard line, with less than two minutes to go in a one-point game. Maybe its luck. Or maybe hes that good. Ill let you decide.

- Those are some huge stones that Stoops showed, but how about Houstons Nutts? The Arkansas skipper also made a bold maneuver when he yanked golden boy Mitch Mustain after one pass ONE PASS against South Carolina. Yes, that pass was intercepted. But now Nutt has opened the Pandoras Box of a quarterback controversy. Sophomore Casey Dick played well, and has been named the starter, but this is a fine line that Nutt is walking. Its a gamble and you know we respect that around here.

Church Affiliation Has Nothing To Do With Salvation

The very reason why the number of Christian sects today grow faster is the belief of many Christians especially those in the protestant sects, that Church affiliation has nothing to do with Salvation. For them, salvation will be obtained as long as man has faith in Christ even if he is a Catholic or Protestant or Born Again... whatsoever group he is with.

On this article, we will use the Holy Bible to examine whether the belief that "Church affiliation has nothing to do with Salvation" is true or not. But before that, we should understand first "what is Church".

The Holy Bible teaches that the Church is the body of Christ and Christ is the head of it:

18 And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence. (Colossians 1:18, NKJV)

The membesr of this body are Apostle Paul and His brethren. In other words, men are the members of it.

27 Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually. (I Corinthians 12:27, ibid)

Each members has his own functions;

4 For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, (Romans 12:4, ibid)

And among the members, some are Apostles, Prophets, Teachers, Workers of Miracles, those who have gifts of healing, Administrators, Translators, and others.

28 And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, varieties of tongues. (I Corinthians 12:28, ibid)

Can we call a group which is not organized, a body? No! The term itself, "BODY" means an organization. Remember that a body is an organizatino of body-parts, in which the body-parts are joined and knit together by joints:

16 from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love. (Ephesians 4:16, ibid)

Can we call a group of men with their own belief which is different and contradictory to each other, a body? No! We should not forget that a body has only one head. And the head of the body of Christ is Christ Himself:

18 And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence. (Colossians 1:18, ibid)

Since there is only one head, then a body should receive one kind of signal or instructions which is the signal coming from its head. In other words, this one body has only one spirit just like what Apostle Paul said:

4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; (Ephesians 4:4, ibid)

And is it true that Church affiliation has nothing to do with Salvation? No! In fact Christ told us that those who will enter by Him are only those who will be saved:

9 I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. (John 10:9, ibid)

Entering Christ means joining his body as members of it.

4 For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, 5 so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another. (Romans 12:4-5, ibid)

And we already know that the body of Christ where man should enter is His Church.

18 And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence. (Colossians 1:18, ibid)

But why is it that we should first become members of the Church of Christ for us to receive salvation through Christ? It is because Christ is the savior of His own body or Church:

23 For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. (Ephesians 5:23, ibid)

Therefore, those who said that Church affiliation has nothing to do with Salvation do not understand how Christ save man. It might be true that a man couldn't attain salvation if he is affiliated to the false church or those churches who are not of Christ. But those who are members of the true Church of Christ will surely attain salvation because Christ saves them and will save them on the day of judgment.

Selecting a Colocation Facility

Communications and data access are integral for business operations. Websites, email and messaging services, and servers have to be up and protected for business communications to function. Data centers that house mission-critical infrastructure the most vital parts of the company network, like servers and databases must sustain the power, climate-control and connectivity that network infrastructure demands.

Redundancy

The colocation facility should have redundant systems, with sufficient capacity, at every point of operation, from climate control systems to network equipment. Having multiple units for to handle capacity is not the same as redundancy. All systems should be in an n+1 configuration; for example, if there are two units, they should both run at less than 50% capacity so that if one fails, the other can still handle the load; if there are three units, then they should be at 66% capacity.

Superior Connectivity

Several factors determine the quality of a colocation centers Internet connectivity:

* The number of Internet backbones
* Total available bandwidth
* Latency, packet loss, and jitter
* Uptime

Colocation data centers provide Internet access to tier-1 carriers, tier-2 carriers, or carrier-neutral access. Tier-1 services provide direct access to one of the major Internet backbone networks, like AT&T. Tier-2 providers routes traffic among multiple tier-1 providers, and reliability and speed are influenced by how effectively traffic is routed. Carrier-neutral access allows service from any carrier, but requires that customers configure their own routing and maintain their own connections to Internet backbones. Tier-2 access is preferable because routing is configured by the colocation facility and its more reliable because more backbones are available, which increases uptime and network performance.

Load-Responsive Routing

The way that Internet traffic is routed, both the hardware and routing logic, has a significant effect on connectivity. Effective routing covers three areas:

* Redundant routers and switches with full capacity for all customers
* Performance-based routing, which continuously adjusts routes to find the most effective one, rather than the least expensive
* Routing among more than three, and preferably four or five, Internet backbones

A hardware-redundant, dynamically adjusting routing system creates a self-healing network that offsets backbone problems, traffic and load, and hardware failures so that service doesnt suffer.

Climate Control

The design of the facility itself has an impact on the performance of systems housed in the colocation center. Server rooms should control air flow between rows. The heat generated by servers is blown in one row, and cool air can be drawn in from another row. Designated hot and cold rows circulate the air to keep servers from overheating.

Appropriately-sized and redundant climate-control units create cold air and control humidity. Servers have strict climate requirements, about 72 degrees and 45% humidity. Colos must have both chillers for the facility climate control and computer room air conditioning (CRAC) units for the server rooms. The capacity for cooling units is calculated by dividing the total tonnage by the square footage. For example, if there are two 50-ton chillers and a 4000 square foot facility, the chiller capacity is 0.040 tons/foot. Chillers and CRAC units should each have a capacity of 0.30 tons/foot or higher.

Power

If there is a failure of the primary power source, the generators and UPS are vital to keep the network online. The UPSs run the servers while power switches from regular electricity to generators, and there must be generators onsite for immediate backup power. The power system should have the following features:

* Failover practices for switching to redundant generator and UPS systems
* Multiple, redundant UPS, systems, since UPSs fail routinely
* A generator large enough to handle 1.5 times the normal building load

Making a Decision

Keeping servers offsite can be a good decision logistically, but only if the data center provides a reliable, secure network environment. Look for potential pitfalls, where service may not offer enough reliability or performance:

* Non-redundant power, cooling, or Internet connections
* Insufficient backup power or non-redundant UPSs or generators
* A low number of Internet backbone connections or substandard routing methods
* Insufficient cooling systems
* Poor uptime record
